Joey and Kaitlyn’s Milliken Park and Downtown Spartanburg Engagement Session was one of my all time FAVORITES!! I probably think this after every session, but after getting to know this couple throughout our time at Milliken and in Downtown Spartanburg, I am even more excited about photographing their wedding this coming Fall! It was so evident how much they both loved and cared about each other, and just enjoyed being together throughout our whole session.
In Kaitlyn’s words, “Joey had a huge crush on me back in 2009 when we were in high school, but at that time I was just not interested in him – yet. It wasn’t until 2017 after all these years have gone by when we reconnected on Snapchat. I reached out because being friends with him on Facebook I saw that his interests were very similar to my brothers (old classic cars and aquariums). My intentions were to connect him and my brother to be buddies, but it very quickly turned into Joey and I talking every day for hours and hours – and it turned into flirting in a matter of days! We finally decided to meet up one day and the sparks were there!! We’ve been inseparable ever since.” I think this is a good recipe for marriage for sure!
Before their Engagement Session, I had only talked on the phone with Kaitlyn and Joey. So I was so thankful to get to meet them in person finally! It’s always good to feel like you know your wedding photographer well before the big day. We met in downtown Spartanburg first, walked around taking pictures as we went, and ended up at Hub City Scoops for a little cool down and some ice cream.
After ice cream, we headed to Milliken Park and got started with some romantic pictures in this beautiful row of trees! Seriously, have Kaitlyn and Joey ever considered being models? If not, I think they should!
I had brought along a few props for their session too, because I wanted to create some creative shots that showed activity and true reactions to one another – like having a picnic, playing some Uno, and just enjoying being together! (There are more that I will share in a later blog post eventually too!)
When asked what they love to do, “We love to laugh, we love to venture in new unfamiliar towns to explore different restaurants, shops, and scenery. We love to visit aquarium stores, honestly that is one of our favorites!! We have large fish tanks in the house and we share the same hobby. We love to go for ice cream, go on jeep rides, and just be outside in the beautiful weather.” After hearing this, I knew Milliken Park would be the perfect place to do part of their Engagement Session at!
It was getting dark on us towards the end of the session, but we stayed a little longer hoping for a beautiful sunset . . . and we sure got one! What perfect colors in the sky to complement a perfect couple!
Congrats again Kaitlyn and Joey! I truly enjoyed your Milliken Park & Downtown Spartanburg Engagement Session and I’m really looking forward to photographing you again at your Fall wedding!

If you have never been to Milliken Park in Spartanburg before, it’s a great place to go on a walk with your significant other or family, have a picnic, feed the ducks, or just get out and enjoy nature!
